Another Newbie Here...wondering the best way to learn color correction.

I work for a publisher that is looking for strategies of digital proofing.  We've got lots of possibilities on the table that mean bringing people in that have this skill.  If you wanted to put yourself into a position where you could do it yourself what would you do?

To add to Greg's questions, I would like a little more detail about "digital proofing". Over the years I've heard that used for a lot of different things. If you would, please describe what you are really trying to do. This should include the type digital input and output that you are working from and to.

Can't help you right this minute, but I am preparing to move to the Philippines where I will gather together a few technicians and teach them to color correct. I already have few experienced maskers. Because of the lower wages in the Philippines this sort of thing is easily outsourced.

What part of the process do you want to do yourself? If you are a printer you will want to get your printer profiled so that if you have files prepped elsewhere you can get predictable results. You will want to write a manual (PDF or website) with your specifications spelled out clearly.

You will want Dan Margolis's book on Professional Photoshop and you will want Curvemeister. Ask the Curvemeister himself, but it seems likely that you might want to make a set of pins that will work with your profiles.
