Hi Joy,

The curve you used on the image is opening up the shadows, which adds detail to the front of the dog, but the two points that you added to the Lightness curve are reducing contrast in the midtone, instead of increasing it.  For this exercise, try rotating the points to make the curve steeper.

Your image is compressed vertically, 500 pixels high when it should be 600.  I have no idea how this is happening, but from your screen shot later on (for the colorized dog).  If you are resizing in Elements, make sure the option to preserve the proportions of the resized images is turned on.
