To me, photography is a passion and a form of art, no such thing as a "snapshot". I'm competing against myself and endevour to get better at photography all the time. Fortunately I don't have to use it to earn a living, its just a hobby. To many other people it is just to snap for the record (even if its not a good record :))  I don't know in your countries, but here you find that every second citizen and his friend who can afford an intro level DSLR suddenly is a "professional "  photographer and start doing weddings etc. You will be shocked to see some of those results.
