my first try.

what exactly has it with alpha channels?
It is only a possibility to save selections without layers.
My idea is , if you have selected that area, you can  mask that area and after that extra using the K channel.

p.s. I think  , Greg , would say: it looks washed out.
I find it oké! The picture before is to darken.
Perhaps could i bump the colors a bit, but i find it so oké.

I try a other experiment.

Fritz,
I am really trying to see it your way...
I just want you to have nicely saturated, robust colors...I know that can be subjective....

The sky is a bit on the cyan side - I would reduce the green in the sky.  There are also problems with the horizon - with the black edges of the trees.  This can be caused by making the mask curve too steep.

In Elements, alpha channels are the same as selections, with the only advantage being that you can reload them again.  You are correct that the selection can be used in combination with the mask for more control.

i have noticed that of the horizon. I know now what it is. to steep the mask.
i have onlu darkened th sky and saturated, without looking to the side effects. I t could be better.
when i have time comng week i do some pictures again.

Greg, it is a question of taste. I do not like to saturated pictures. but a little more, it could!

Fritz,

I would not want you to be a copy of anyone else..nor would I tell you that your choices are wrong...

Some times it is hard to tell if it is a choice or a problem to be corrected...

Greg
