I found that the dark endpoint horizontal slide gave me a better result than the Set Shadow method. See attached images.
This was without doing anything else to the image other than what was in the Class 1 Session 1 notes.
My preference with both is RGB because of the vivid colours.

on my monitor the endpoint slide looks flat...you may want to revisit that one and see if there is more to be done...
but hey you got the set shadow point one done very well...
