here's he 2nd one!
I've done in curves using lab mode but with the standard curves with PSCS2
the curve looks like the big wave of Hosukai  :D
I found that was a bit more natural than the example 1 I've made

You have the shadow and highlight done well but the image lacks color.  If you have use the LAB space for this please go back and add some saturation using the slider...you will be more than plaeased with the results.
