The color pins do too much!  :D

Seriously, these pins could be handy if one is familiar enough with this tool to set them up. Are they functionally equivalent to recalling saved curves?

A better analogy would be like having color swatches...
Some people have taken a board of known color swatches / paint patches and shoot them in the scene. 
Then they apply the pins to some of the colors for spot on correction.

Mona Lisa has great skin tone but now can you make the background look better without cooling her off??
