I didn't try to alter the red mud splatters on the side of the Jaguar using curves because one consequence was that the railing turned green! I'd probably just paint out the spatters, instead.
If you try this in LAB you will not get the splatters....
it really is a 30 second exercise once you "see" it...It translates to a neat technique when combined with layers in Photoshop.
