Neil,
Not to push you in any specific direction but one of the strongest parts of using LAb is the ability to saturate an image without introducing a color cast.
To me the colors look a bit muted, even in PSE. you might want to open the highlights up just about 1/4 to 1/2 stop...just brighten it overall and then saturate the colors a bit.

I increased the saturation and brightness a bit, as you've suggested.

What color profile did you save this under??
it looks so muted...I'll download it again just to make sure...
Tried again..still not getting it...hmmm I'll take it from your image and we'll see what is going on...
My example is loaded below.
I just increased the Sat to 210
