This shot was taken at the beginning of August up in the Telmark mountains not long before sunset. The subject is a seaman (Master of one of the ferries that ply between Norway and Denmark) and when he's not at sea he spends a lot of time up in the mountains. Hence he has a rather unusual skin colour which I was unable to bring out. So I settled for a believable colour.
I was mainly interested in reducing the shadow of the face.
I settled for setting a neutral point on the rock (granite) and moved it around between the sunlit portion and the shaded part until I got the best colour balance.
I then tweaked the a and b channels being carefull not to overdo it which tended to make his face resemble molten metal, it realy glowed.
