The K  mask did not work this time.
My impressions is that there is now a red cast on the bridge

Fritz,
I would say your impression is correct.  Mike gave away the neutral in another posting...

Did you use it??  if not you can set the neutral and see if it improves the image.

Greg

indeed i have used the neutral in the first pass in lab.
But with raising the colors there comes a color cash again.
Afterwards using the neutral does not much help.
Perhaps i doing the picture on a other time.

p.s. i like the folliage!

Greg,
i am now arrived at the alpha channels.
I have never used it in Elements X.
so i need a little study.
I have Del Selection and Alphas and Preview Selections found in the Extra Hiddenpowershop extra effects.
I have the book , so i must study it.
Also i have a book of Photoshop 6. ( a very big one).
After that i hope to see how i can use CM with it and perhaps a combination with the Hiddenpower possiblities i mentioned.

I have not played with that yet...
I'll be interested in your take on it...

This is more of a Man from another planet than a masking exercise, though it is certainly possible that a mask could be useful.

Greg,
i have played a long time with the alpha channels in elements and with the Hidden power possibilities.
In elements you can save selections on layers or alpha channels.
Hidden power has 2 extra possibilities.
DEL Selections and Alpha
and
Preview Selection

the first  help you purge selections without deleting each one, or it help you separate  out selections into separate documents.
preview Selection will provide a brief preview of the saved selections.

Greg

The Power plugins are more ( much more) or less difficult to handle.
I am always trying to discover what is the best to do and fixing out or Hidden power works nice for me.
Yesterday started again with lesson  5 and the tassels and golden bells.
The mask works nices and i could give the tassels different colors.
But trying the same with Hidden powers is difficult.
There it is named : Color masking with HUE/Saturation.
the .atn command is fully explaned, and you can do each part of it on his own. ( all commands are fully explained till in detail in the book)
But on the end of the story , you could all do it very quick by giving in the comprehensive command.
The example bescribed there are  two balloons. One blue and one red on a yellow backgound.
The difference  with CM is that you can chose your mask in CM.
But for the HUE/Saturation , you choose to desaturate the reds.  Nice, but is of course all the reds in the picture and  not alone the red balloon.
With CM you choose your mask on such a way that only the red tassels are the goal and not all the red.
Also it is esier with CM to give the balloon a other color.
So in the past i have read the book several times and has much notes make in it.
But my overall conclusion is, that it is much easier working with CM3.
Only a couple of things go better with Hidden Powers.
Such as giving a piture some other colors.
In front of me i have now a blue butterfly on a blue yeans.
So give certain parts of the butterfly other colors.
So HiddenPowers do that with  History Brush and  Snapshot.
It works very nice and i have  applied it on several very old black photo's to give them colors.
Face , cloths of persons.
These are the only two  commands which are helpfull on Hidden Powers.
Perhaps there one or two more. Like blend mask and  selection to mask.

My prority lies on CM3 but when i am busy to repeat a part of the lessons , i look again in the  Hiddenpower book to see or i can do it also with the commands there, to come to the same conclusions i made a half year ago, that the best solution is stll CM (3) now.
