I found this to be more difficult as well as more time than the "Man from Mars". I still could not get the rocks with enough detail.

Hey Barry,

One of the things Mike talks about in the video is "stealing contrast" from areas of the image that are not using it...he shows you a way to do that by lowering the shadow end of the curve and using the difference to make the rocks stand out.

Another way to achieve this is to use a shadow threshold.  it does compress the range a bit but It seems to be holding the detail in the rock quite nicely.
