Joe,
I think the setting you are looking at is in shot1.  It is sticky.  If you click on it it sticks until you choose a mask.  Then you get the mask as the full image.

It you want the mask carte see shot2. 

If you cannot get the masks to go away click once on the mask Icon and see if it goes back to normal.

Greg, that ( drop down menu) is not the pin table I am talking about. The pin table is similar to the curves table where it has a banner that you can click on and move it around. If you look at Mikes video answer to the Toy Store he has the mask in a palette. In that fashion it is easier to use.

Joe,
You are correct ..Mike was using the mask carte...shot 2 from above....  If you close out the other view by deselecting the mask and then click on the Mask Carte Link you should get what you want...

Let me know if it does not get there...
