Between bringing my grandchild to school an get them an bringing her again i have intensified experiment with the second exampe and seen the video a couple of times and also the end of the purple dog.
I use CM 3.05 and my K channel is not black in the sky.
I think of that reason the steeping the K channel starts not like the example-video of Mike about 12 points but on the opposite site of the curve surface.
So far after several tries there is no problem, and i could give the sky more or less blue and light.
But the problem is the K mask.
Like the purple dog gras there are points in the black area K mask which may be corrected.
I made a copy of the mask. But when you see the copy , you see a whole different picture as when working on it before.
So bringing in that mask in the Hue-selection layer is no problem.
But the problem is more to correct the mask itself.
the most is white, and is more diifficult to correct. I get the most important black, but near the edge of the sky it is very difficult.
So what to do?
Frits
p.s.
Copy of the K -mask, when he is nearly black, only the sky!
Strange is the copy of it.

LOL on the tornado....
As for the second image you could give it some more contrast in the mid range of the image. It has the effect of sharpening it up a bit and lowering the forground lighting just enough to balance the image some...
I used a contrast pin on some of the brighter green leaves and just moved it a bit...otherwise to me the image looks a bit flat...
