I haven't had a shot at this image yet but I like the variations that you applied.

Which one was easier to improve the overall image?? Did you preferr Lab or RGB?
Setting aside comfort zones....

Mike,I think the RGB image was easier to control,I'll try to get some cloud detail.LAB I was just sliding points around trying to avoid weird colors.GregM

Would you say that the Lab issues were due to a lack of understanding of the space? or just being unable to control the changes? Both are difficult to overcome without more explaination.
I'm trying to dig deeper here and get a better understanding of where you are at, not trying to offend....
Lab can be different to learn, I had many problems at first, I can tell you that now I find it to be the first stop for my work in curves.

Greg,I,was able to get a touch of color in that anchor float for the boat in the foreground and get some cloud detail.I have to work more in this space before I can define a problem.GregM.

Greg,
I looked at your last Curve...
You need to adjust the L curve with thresholds first then tweak the center. Start by doing the Highlight, shadow, Neutral (when there is one) Drill. in this case the shadow highlight drill will breing the image into a better area for you to try to tackle the color.
After the shadow and highlight are set start by running the saturation slider up as far as you want... to see what color the image takes on. I found the Green to be well rather un-natural so I adjusted the A curve to kill off some of the green.
