A very pleasing orange color, I must say.

Using just the saturation curve, it is possible to bring out the shape of the pumpkins.  I've attached an example of the effect.

Mike, since I have had no instructions for HSB it would be nice to see what your curve looks like.

While I' on the subject I have had no instruction for RGB, HSB and CMYK. Yet I am trying to work these images with no idea where to start. Is there somewhere I can get some info with GOOD instructions and EXAMPLES to use? I know someone else in this calass who could use that info also.

Here's a version that shows the effect of increasing the variation in saturation - the pumpkins look shinier, and rounder.

The best source for deeper discussions of RGB and CMYK curving are Dan Margulis's books.  HSB color space is supported directly in PhotoPaint, so there may be tutorials for that program.

If you are saying that you need more information for the individual exercises - Unless otherwise noted in the discussion we are sticking with shadow, highlight, and neutral, which are the same for all the color spaces. 

More techniques will be added as the class progresses.  As of this week 2, we are adding one or two interior points for either the Lightness or RGB curve.  The HSB and CMYK examples were added just to give some representation to those color spaces, which will only be touched on in the course of the class.

I think an assumption by Mike and myself has been made that the usage of the curves tool would translate across color spaces.

There are no real differences in how you use the curves it is the results that differ.  You can choose a color space based on the needs of the image and your comfort in using the space you select.

Let's start there and please ask more questions about the spaces...

As for examples hmmm...there are quite a few examples of results...the videos mike is producing are good examples of process...
I'll try to post more curves for you to look at.  Please remember to read other postings as well as your own.  

One final thought...
We will be giving more information out as the week progresses we don't want to give the solutions away too fast lest you not explore and test your knowledge.  We do want you to try the images even if you feel you have failed...Please post your image and if possible your curve.  We do look at them and make suggstions.  Hard fast corrections are tough to come by because we all can interpret the image differently.
