My original intent was to see If the background paper could be kept white.
1) LAB  I think I oversaturated the LAB version a bit.
2) RGB  Who knows I don't know where to start. Its a guess.

When in doubt, the drill is shadow, highlight, neutral, and then a point or two in the middle for overall brightness.

The main function of additional points in the middle of the Lightness (or RGB) curve is to trade off contrast in the midtone for contrast in the shadows and/or highlights.
