I did this in 3 stages: Firstly opened in RAW and with fill-in light brightened the dark bakground. Then into CM and set the shadow, highlights and skintones and save. Reopened again in Lab and choose a mask in H. I then oversaturated the image but reset the neutral and tried to keep skintones normal.
Mike/Greg it seems that CM runs happier when in 8 bit. Sometimes battles a bit when in 16 bit, for instance mask would'nt load and process is slower. When in 16 bit it crashes when going for smart filter.

ok...my eyes hurt....

You want to try to get the color further back into the frame using the mask rather than blowing the colors out of the front off the scale.
Try inverting the Lightness channel from Lab and see if you can make the garishness go away a bit...

Inverse lightness mask, then skinpin.I'd like still more light on people at back of store.

I tried to copy Ganna's treatment of people at rear of shop.Since I don't know how to open a nonraw imagein raw I used  enhance,shadow/highlight to bring up the backroom,in curves some other part of image shifted. Then masking and color boost. Then I shaved  a little yellow off b channel.

That a lot better in a side by side comparison.

Good work...
