Want to see if it makes any difference.First pass for shadows in Lab,next a pass in RGB.Sky is kinda blue,land is kinda green.The by the numbers example showed me controlling colors doesn't have to be haphazard.If you add detail to the sky you seem to lose the sense of light spilling down on the water!

I think you have reached a very nice compromise... you might need to make another pass to get the lighting you want.  or if you want to go that deep you could apply a mask to the sky...Good job...
