Third pass back to wide gamut and a slight boost to the magenta, then a bit  of sharpening

Greg,
Hard to tell from the images...how did the petal details hold up?
The last image is a bit magenta overall...but the real lesson was about the K channel...

Greg,on my monitor ,in PSE6,there was an improvement to the wreath. The bricks are a bit too red,but as you said the point is the black channel.Like Ganna this is the first time this example worked for me.I'll experiment somemore with it.

mostly I was curious...I have accepted the slight casts as monitor differences and try not to assume...Glad it worked for you this time...CMYK can be a very powerful colorspace.  It makes more sense to people if they can think in negative colors...

C is Negative Red, M is Negative Green, and Y is Negative Blue...etc...K brings in the shadows and in press production it allows the printer to reduce the values of the other three colors.  Dan Margulis writes about it extensively...
