Thomas,
I would say that both seem to suffer from the same affliction...low contrast.  Try setting the shadow a bit darker and see if the overall color saturation gets better.  The neutral is fairly placed in the first but you might look for something a bit cooler in the second.

Overall the color separation in the greens is well done and the image is most certainly improved...

Is the second warmer than the first? I liked greens better in second. Agree about black point. Forgot to check it. New try wth contrast increased a bit.

Thought there was a little too much red in previous version. Made a restart and got this result. Sometimes a restart makes changes easier.

There you have it....

Glad to see you restart.  Sometimes we work our way into a corner and forget to scrap it all and start over.  When you find yourself fighting for something that you just cannot seem to fix it might be time to start over or try another color space.  Frequently when I try to fix something in LAB and struggle it is because the right answer is to shift to RGB or CMYK and try again.

Or

If I'm in RGB and I just cannot seem to get the "snap" into the image I'll get the image to a point I can apply changes to and then go back in in LAB to adjust the contrast and saturation...Many people go right to HSB for that as well...

Just don't forget the basics SHN, and don't be afraid to make a mistake...As my kids always tell me..."Dad, dare to be stupid!"

Oh I've noticed...That is a strength that you have...never forget that...
It usually leads to very happy accidents where great images can emerge.

Keep asking questions and we'll keep trying to answer
