I made the mask with the L channel then put it in a layer mask in PS and cleaned up the mask a bit then changed the blend mode to multiply, then copied that layer to multiply and lowered the opacity on that layer then flattened the layers, then lightened the tree on the left side just a bit.

Was the L channel any better in your opinion than say the K channel??

The image seems pretty close to the other one posted.

I did not think the l channel was better or as good as the other one however the example said to try the
L or R channel and I had problems with R. I found that I was limited as to how far I could take this image before the horizon started to break up.
