My attempt at example 1, Followed hints.

Greg how does one invert a curve in CM?

Which Curve??
On the mask??

On the mask you can use the mouse.  Place the mouse on the edge of the curve window and it will turn into a double headed arrow like a smiley face.  you then left click and drag the mouse left or right and the curve will rotate about the center axis.  Keep going until you pass the vertical it is then considered inverted.

I keep trying that but I can only drag until the top and bottom are in line vertically and they will not go past each other.

I finally found that if I go top to bottom instead of horizontally it works, thanks.

Interesting...It would make sense in a odd sort of way that the sides of the frame would not allow rotation beyond vertical....
