Did I miss to send my try?
Here it is. First time I did same misstake as kessi to oversaturate it. Easy done and we do not often see them in real life. too cold.....

A solid effort....

Try bringing the lightness end of the adjustment down a bit..the grayish shade is a sign that the highlights are too bright...see if you can adjust out "most" of the gray....Some will be there and that is ok...

How is this best done without loosing contrast?

By adjusting the saturation...see attached screen shot...this is from your image going forward...
