Pass 1: Lab.  Set SHN.  Use bike handlebars for neutral.  This moved the skin tone into the desired area.
Pass 2: RGB.  Adjust R and B curves to reduce blue cast in shadows.
Pass 3: Lab.  Increase saturation in shadows by using an inverted L mask.

You have the color back there; can you brighten the image enough to make it show through??
I was able to from your image...I'll give it away if you end up stumped...

You have the tools to bring the background out in this image...not too much but maybe 20% more??
You are more than half way there.
