The notice board-tried lots of techniques on this one this was the best result, if oversaturated.

Mick,
I missed this posting...I must have visited the site and looked but not responded...
Well as the CM 3.0.15 beta just crashed my PS I will re-install the older version and take a peek...

Ahhh.that's better....

Ok..Mick I could not substantially improve the color or text without causing more problems for the image.  Great job.  The colors are vibrant, and the text is improved.

Looks pretty well done...maybe open the shadows a bit just to make sure there is detail in the deepest parts of the image.

Mick,
I can see why you are not happy...The wreath is kinds warm..This one needs a better neutral perhaps.

Look for things that might reasonably be neutral in nature.  There are things in the image that can serve as a "reasonable" neutral...they're not perfect but they're better than nothing.

When you are in CMYK you may have to combine colors to get rid of casts..for instance Red is a combination of M and Y. Blue is not Cyan... The other thing is in the K channel a little can go a long ways.  Watch for the shadows to block up and try to get just enough tone into them to make them believable but not so much as to make them look blotchy...Blotchy = no detail in the shadows.  Same with the highlights in the wreath a little can go a long ways.

The fruit vendor is one tough image.  Try to tackle that one in RGB where you can have multiple neutrals based on the brightness.  If you can find a bright part of the frame and a dark part you might get further along...go slow and watch the hue clocks...Otherwise it is a compromise...remember there are images where at this stage of the class you might not have all the tools you need.  Your job is to get a reasonable correction that looks believable.

Greg
