Hi,
Had to start right at the beginning again to understand how to solve the problems.
I used the neutral picker and the white point exactly where the suggestions pinpointed.
As the image was too dark, I cheated and used screen mode straight away. Back into LAB and moved the slider one notch, but dialed it down to 30% opacity to keep it real.

I remember struggling with these photos last time, & tonight was no exception.
The advantages over LAB to RGB was that I was able to keep part of the sky blue as I revealed the features on their faces. With RGB, I preferred reducing the contrast on their faces, but completely lost the sky which would have entailed some tricky masking.

Thanks for the above, I'll retry again. The merry-go-round is a bugger as well.
Had two failed attempts, but the video and article put me in the right direction.
I used 'mark' on the RGB curve and simply raised it high (see attached screen shot).
Then tweaked in LAB to boost the colours. I used 'Lock all grid' command (via right click) and raised the one point that was 'marked' by the key tonal area. I kept getting red lines on the curve, which I'm guessing is a warning (out of gaumet?) and lowered them to find a tolerant point.
In PS I used 'blend if' sliders to control the pink and screen mode > gradient mask to balance the final shot.
I found it hard not to use the shadow/highlight adjustments.
Cheers Mandy

Try this solution....

Then bump the saturation in LAB. It might need some tweaking for skin tones...

Whilst Jay is wrestling with ducky land, I keep going back to those darn kites!
At the moment I only want to share the neutral points this time, the abe video really helped. However, I need to rework the skin tones again!
Also, I'm aware that Jay and I seem to be the only students, so don't feel obliged to keep commenting, its really just work in progress and my posts are just me 'thinking aloud'.

Manda..
There are currently 6 students in the class.
Sometimes people just download and do they feel no need to post.
I have accepted that..I really wish it were different. The best classes have lots of postings and many questions that open up discussion.
My responses are for you and would be there regardless of the number in the class..I check the board many times a day and try to get you timely answers to your questions so you can progress.
The kite flyers may need multiple passes through the CM software. You are getting much closer...
