I think I have the colors right.  I left the background a little darker to put the focus on the tiger.  Too much do you think?

Good job - nice detail and tones on the tiger.  Not too much at all.  Most people are distracted by the blown out foreground.

If you want to give it a try that will only help you with later images that are similar...

Well Greg, I hope you are grading on the curve.  I tried two things, neither of which seemed to improve the image that much.  The first is a lizard tail.  The second was a mask.  I thought the mask was the most likely to succeed but I pulled the L curve down as much as I could but with really no improvement in the highlights.  Those pixels seem to have gone to a better place.
