In this image I thought BTN worked well, but I wasn't satisfied with my efforts to control the shadows on the left side of Dan's faces.  So I backed out and applied PS shadows and highlights.  Unfortunately this produced some significant artifacts which were mostly fixed in Noise Ninja.

Brian I'm still trying to figure out if the problem with this image is the low res of the original or that and a combination with your correction...

Are the artifacts your primary concern, or something else?  If it is the artifacts, the S&H application must have bent the pixels too severely for the quality of the image.  I could try a less agressive application of S&H or approach the image a different way.

na...it's the redish cast which is highly reproducible on my side...

The Blinds in the background are actually a yellow tan in color...they appear too red and when I go after the image I am getting simular results...I may repost the original with more data in the image file...
