Done according to instructions with a b channel mask.I used background channels 3&4 for adjustments to top or bottom of image.I used image>adjust rather than CM simply because it was a click away and I wasn't sure what would happen with the masks if  I went to CM.GregM

Just remember the masking is an after effect not the main purpose of CM.  It was found that many effective masks were made by using a channel and jacking up the contrast.  CM supports mask creation but it is not the be all and end all of masking...The mask is a simple tool when you think it through.  It simply blocks the adjustment from showing through the current layer.  You can apply a mask to the underlying layers.  They only effect the current layer adjustment.
