Again, I pretty much followed instructions. I did make it brighter with the Lightness curve.

Not too bad...the sky needs a bit of help...it's almost magenta in the hue clocks I tried...
See if you can add some blue without messing up the rest....

Greg, I give up on getting more blue in the sky. I tried many things, I put a K mask on it and tried it in HSB I thought I could get some blue there. Blue in other parts of the image got more blue but the sky did not.
I tried RGB that didn't work.
I tried LAB that didn't work.
At least for me. I guess I just don't know how to do it.
HELP!
JoAnn H

try a b channel mask that looks something like this...
I added a light blur to the mask.  Apply to the layer...
Open the image in CM.
Then add a sky pin to the image on the mask layer and fade the opacity slider to about 65%

See if it gets better...

Greg, I've worked on this all day and getting nowhere.
when you say try a b channel mask that looks something like this.... can you give me a screen shot?
I put a b mask on it. Then inverted it. copied it
cancelled out of CM and now I'm in PS...Do I want to add an adjustment layer? I made a hue & sat. adjustment layer copied the mask to it. Don't know what to do next.
I need more specific instructions. I'm sorry I'm not getting this.

Hey Joann,
No problems...

Start over and go at it this way....

1) copy background and set the layer mode to screen.
2) copy the screen layer so you have 2 screen layers like shown in shot1.

3) Select the background layer and open CM.
4) Select the L channel for a mask.  Adjust as shown in shot2.  Select a light blur.
5) Apply the mask to the top layer of your image.  This will lighten the dark shadows without blowing out the trees.  Shot3
6) Flatten your image.

See next posting....

1) set a reasonable neutral. Shot4
2) Apply settings and close CM.
3) Make a copy of the background layer
4) Open CM and create a B channel mask as shown in shot5.
5) Paste the mask into the background copy layer.
6) The image on the layer and apply a sky pin to an open area of sky. Apply and close CM
7) Set opacity to 16% or so...Shot7.

Flatten image.

8) open in CM for the last time and adjust the color saturation in LAB with the slider and MFM K channel mask as needed.

I worked on this a while last night and started over this morning. I had pretty good results EXCEPT the purple fringe on the branch at the top left and leaves. I got the magenta/blue out but then the curtains were pretty faded. I'm satified that I know how to do this photo and am going to move on. BUT....I can't...until I know how to get rid of the purple fringe. I even took it into PSE where there is a purple fringe removal tool and that didn't even get rid of it.
Thanks for all your help.
#1 image is before I noticed the purple fringe.
#2 image I've taken out SOME of the purple fringe.
#3 image I made a selection of the fringe area and made an adjustment layer in PS, Hue & Sat. Took out the offending fringe. However, now there is no green in the leaves.

BTW..the problem I was having with the mask...I was trying to use b mask instead of B mask. Duh!

Wow you pushed the color in this one...

I like that you have sorted out the channel problem...If you still have a layers version of the screen masks you could set the first screen layer to 50% and redo the copy  that might make the highlights a bit more manageable...
