I set up the  k mask then switched to Lab and curved the Lightness channel.Background layer in PS was set to fill 52%.I want to see if I can do this consistently.GregM
PS I was able to get much the same results using a red channel mask.That ugly band of polution remains however.

Are your shadows locked up on the original??  The web posted image has lost shadow detail.

Yes.The k mask and the L channel are pulled pretty far right.I'll try some things.GregM

I posted a new image under the first,screen below.After the masking I did a lizzard tail in Lab and for reduce size I went with nearest neighbor hoping to preserve the crispness of the leaves and branches framing the image.GregM
