My version of the Children Drawing in Lab. It is not as bright but that way I can read the small letters.

My RGB version. Even darker than Lab, but the colours are a bit more luminous.

Both look like you still have the right idea here kessi.  The RGB version could use a tweak to the Master curve if you want to.  It's more of a brightness issue.
