I have adjusted this image so many times I always see something different in here...
See what you can do with this...So far there is no right answer...but plenty of wrong ones....

Used the building as a neutral. Everything else in Lab

any thoughts about why you chose the depth you did and what other ideas crossed your mind??

It looked like the mist is clearing; thus early morning, but normally after sunrise and therefore I thought your image was a little too dark.

interesting...the fog was rolling through the scene and there were moments of clear sky it was actually mid-afternoon. 
The image as posted is certainly too dark and that is one of the problems to tackle...

I used the building as the highlight,shadow in bushes and neutral on a tree trunk.After a color boost,I moved the lightness threshold to the right and the saturation slope changed to the included curve.GregM
A bit of cyan can be removed from the sky to change the mist.

Well you do come up with some strange images
There are too many jpg artifacts in the sky area to really go mad, but that doesn't stop me.
- so I've gone more weird than normal to try and breathe some strangeness into it !
