I did not try to convert this with rgb.

The interior points on the L curve were a "shot in the dark"

Steve,
You have the color saturation you need; but the shadow and highlight ends of the L curve are too far gone...The curve turning red is called "Curve Guard"  It is CM's way of telling you you have gone too far...Usually you do not want to see that unless you are certain your choices are correct. 

In My screen shot I have the two areas you need to manage in this image.  For A you should see good contrast and readable letters.  In Area B you should be able to read the black text and still have the paper appear white to white-ish blue.

I can give you more to go on but you might want to start over and go slower near the ends of the curve...

Another try. 

I soften the lab curve.


A photoshop question.

If I apply the CM as filter, once applied I cannot go back.  If I do a convert to smart filter, I can go back-  but if I apply the second filter as a smart filter it reads the the first parameters.  Do I make sense? 

How do I apply another cm layer?  Can I make it another CM smart filter?
