Greg
I tried on this one. Having become quite a lover of highlights myself i really tried to focus on not losing them in the horses. I think I did ok but maybe at the expense of lightening up the shadows. I'm not sure.

I think it looks the photo now looks a little odd but I cant really isolate why.

After the RGB I went into lab to boost the colour a bit.

I closed the pins and now they are gone, and I have also lost the hue clocks in cmyk again.

Julie,
I think you have done a fairly nice job with this image...If you look at my screen shot you could try this totally subjective adjustment to darken the overall shadow by 1 % in the L channel of LAB.  It is no more correct than your adjustment just different...

I think it makes the image look richer...and that may be the missing piece where you stated something is odd but you cannot put figure it out...
Try a similar adjustment and use the compare button to see what you prefer.

Let me know what you think..

I can see the difference. Its slight but important. I think it adds a bit of depth. I like it more.
Thanks
Julie

PS I guess I can re-install for the pins but what about the hue clocks in CMYK. I need them this week. It says cm 3.1.0.0 on the top of my screen. I'll try reinstalling and see what happens and I wont close the pins again.

CM 3.1.0.0 is the 3.0.20 version of the program.
The title bar number is a bug.

The CMYK clocks have been an issue for some in the past.  if you are in CS5 are you 64 bit or 32 bit??

I am in cs3. My computer says I have a 64 bit operating system. Is re-installing the only eay to get the pins back?

Julie

I just reinstalled and have pins and hue clocks again. I will try and keep a watch to see when cmyk hue clocks disappear again.

CS3 does not have a 64 bit version of Photoshop so you can run 3.0.19 I run it on an XP pc and the pins are working.  You may also find the CMYK hue clocks issue resolved for that version.
