Hello.

I found this example to be very informative.  I created the Sky Mask from the K channel of CMYK.  I then darkened the sky in Lab mode.  What do you think of this image change?

I noticed the mask of the sky also included some small parts that I did not want masked.  I experimented but could not find a way to save a Mask channel and then pasted into a layer mask.  If I was able to do this, I would have adjusted the mask some that only the sky was white and everything else including boats and water would have been painted black.  Any suggestions?

Nicely done...

You can copy the mask with the copy command and paste it to a layer mask in PS or PSE...
There is a little green Icon that does the work for you...It is the first Icon on the left as shown..shot2

Hello.

I was able to copy the masks with no trouble.  I had thought I had hit the copy button but it was copying then wrong channel;  I suspect I was pointing to the wrong curve (channel) or selected  all curves.  As long as I select the masked curve it copies the mask fine.  Thanks for the information.

I will further experiment with Smart Filters and masks.  I suspect the reason it did not remember the mask when returning to Curvemeister was something I did wrong.  If I cannot get this working, I will inform you.

Also, when I save a curve with a masked channel such as Mask-K, will loading the saved curve file bring back the masked channel?

I don't think the mask is saved.  That is one of the problems...and one of the reasons for smart filters.  You can save the mask but to what value??  If you paste it to a image document you can apply it later.  If you make it a smart filter it stays until you flatten the image.  I often paste to the clipboard to see what CM is actually creating.
