Hello.
I use Lab mode for the tiger image correction. I believe there is too much white (light) on the log; how would I correct this situation? What do you think of this correction?

The front is quite blown out...You can try a few different things...
With a layer mask you can try multiply...Or you can add tonality to the image by painting on a new layer or cloning some texture into it....
As for your image...Add saturation and you are quite close....
