Originally, I just inverted the ends of the A channel, but I managed to eliminate most but not all of the side effects by modifying the magenta part of the curve.

If you make the bend in the A curve harder...Since the curve guard is going off anyway  Add a control point on the magenta side and try to make the curve break at a right angle to where you have it instead of that nice curve...Make it two straight lines at a 90 degree angle..The color will get even better.
