With Green Fur??  hmmmpf...
The LAB version is better but the shadow threshold needs to be set. 

The RGB version is well..as I said...green...

It is looking better but you are still fighting for control of the image...the Skin Pin is the cherry on top.  Remember from the video you need to have a reasonable correction to begin with...the Skin Pin will cause the rest of the image to go all wacky...

In the shot I posted I did a S/H/N then added the skin pin.  After that I made slight adjustments to make the forearm hair look better...
I would suggest that you get the image into a good spot then add the Pin...

Here is another attempt.

I noticed something.  When you move the master rgb or the LAB l curve, you can move one channel to zero before the others.  The darkest spot may not be 0,0,0.  When you set a black point, it does equal 0,0,0.
