I had a difficult time deciding what to do for adding color, so I first did a Lab in black and white and then finally settled on a sort of eerie green effect for the color version as the other color changes that I made weren't very convincing.

PS. Thank you for your comments on the other photos that I submitted. I am going away for a long weekend and I will get back to your comments and the other photos in Lesson 2 when I am back next week. Merry Christmas.

Richard,
Of all the images in the class this one is probably the toughest for the class to settle on.

The things to look for are:
1) The net on the front of the boat is red...(a CM student discovered this)
2) There is detail in the deep shadows on the right...There is a temple up there and you can find details.
3) Neutral can be found in many different places but the one shown is pretty close...
4) the feeling of Depth is controlled entirely by the mid tone contrast...You are going to have to curve the middle of the L channel to get shape and depth.

See Attached shot for a sample...This is just one possible solution.  I will not post the curves because this image is about you getting the feeling you want...not what I think is right for the image...use your experience and your minds eye to help guide you in what is the right color and where the tonality should lie...

Hint...Saving the shadow and highlight details is key to this image...

Here is another version where I have taken into account your comments, trying to keep details in the shadows and highlights.
I still don't see that the net on the front of the boat is red!
