Made things very black and white.
Is it to0 harsh?
Gave the colour a boost and sharpened a tiny bit

Julie,
While you held the skin tones to a reasonable value you over did the brightness and lost some tonality in the photo. 

Try the brightness again if you like and see if you can fine tone in the photo without crappy text...
