I tried Lab and HSB and set neutrals on both images and used the highlight threshold just so that I could still see the white head of the seagull. My other place of concern was the corner of the second story of the blue building on the left, along with the seagull the detail seemed to be lost first. Then I used the saturation slider in Lab and the threshold on the HSB saturation curve.
My first efforts with this image gave me some very luminous seagrass that would have had the seagulls wearing sun glasses. These two images are a little better.

Di I love the fact that you are pushing these around a bit.  To me that is where you find out what the Curves can do...Go too far and then come back to sanity...

Both efforts look good...I had a good laugh about the Seagulls.  The grass is a trap here and you handled it fairly well..
