Moved the white threshold in and then set a suitable shadow point and then adjusted the curve for the highlights. I was happy with the result the areas of concern for me were the white horses, skin tones, overall colour and controlling the areas outside the merry go around.

Hi Di,
It's hard to see in your version but you have a slight red cast in the image...the skin tones are too red/magenta.  See shot 1 below.  It's a good rule of thumb to put the skin tones in the 12:30 to 1:00 range on the hue clocks. See Shot 2 below...

I simply chose another neutral for the image as you can see in the horses neck within the screen shots...This is one area we should always be aware of skin tones are the give away in most any image.  While you need not be perfect you do need to keep them in the right range...

Also I think you have pushed the highlight side too  far as there is some detail loss in the horses.  If you bring the highlights back slightly and hold the skin tones you can get away with a whole lot more in the saturation department in this image.
