I found my RGB version easier to judge an accurate neutral

Comparing the two histograms one can see how much more detail is present in the LAB treatment.
But you can see the Blue channel in the LAB was a small bit off balance.  I think.
The histogram on the right is the RGB.

Lonnie,
The histogram data does indeed show that the Blue and Red channels are out of place for the LAB version.  Most of the error is in the shadow side of the image...I have little use for Histograms to tell me this I rely more on the hue clocks...(I can see it in both but the hue clocks are immediate and allow me to make corrections before I close out of Curvemeister.

Try this...
Take you image from the web posting and use the saturation slider in lab to completely over saturate it.  What you will see is that the blues are off and the reds are also slightly off.  You can see that by placing a hue clock on the image in various points (Alt-Clicking on the image adds a hue clock).  In general the LAB image is a bit too blue and the shadows are blocked up a bit too much.

Both images can use some additional contrast and the Lab image loses saturation when you adjust the luminosity.  We can cover this today on the call if you are there...
Greg
