I just tried doing the first assignment with the duck picture.  The result using the RGB setting was much nicer for me than using the LAB setting.  I tried the LAB settiong a few times and got a very green cast on the entire picture.  No obvious cast on the RGB picture.  Did I do something wrong?

Most likely cause for the green cast is the neutral you choose.
LAB can have only 1 neutral so placing it is very important.  Look for something that "should be neutral" not something that measures as neutral.

You can drag the selected point around a bit on the image to see if you can find a better spot for the neutral.  Watch the "Honest Abe" video and see if that helps clarify it...lastly post an image or two and we can take a look.  Save it for web with the curves applied and upload it to this thread...

Where can I find the "Honest Abe" video that you mention?
Thanks,

It is linked through the class assignments page...

See screen shot below....

"Honest Abe" is the actual file name...Sorry for the confusion.

I was wondering if there is a way with Curvemeister  to choose a specific place to set the grey point by looking at the RGB values and choosing a spot where all three values are as close to similar as can be found.  In trying the first lesson demo file, I am finding that selecting the grey point just by eye is the toughest part.  The choice makes a huge difference with regard to color cast.
Thanks

Later in the class we cover color "by the numbers".

We choose a point in the image we want to be neutral and then we adjust the curves to make that happen...

Right now it's kind of cart before the horse....
