Greg probably knows about this, but I've just discovered it. There's a script available for sharpening in PS that allows completely separate control of the dark and light halos (radius and amount). Unfortunately, only for Photoshop not Elements. But at least there's now a Windows version in addition to the Mac version (both written by a member of DM's group). I wonder if this is incorporated in DM's PPW "Sharpening 2013" that we discussed last night?
See:

(in three parts -- interesting reading).
Windows version:

$14.95, a bargain!

Hi Art,
don't know, if it's the same method, but look like this.
It's explained in the Photoshopbook of Dan Margulis.
New Layer > unsharp mask > layer mode to darken. Dublicate the layer, set this one to "Lighten-Mode" and lower opacity to 50%.
Normally I do that on L-Channel, but also possible on a whole rgb.
But the sparpen 2013 is better. Don't have a look til now, what's the difference, but maybe it's easy to create by yourself.
Greetings, Tanja

Yes, that's good. I like the "darken" mode very much. No halos at all. Subtle deepening of the colour and texture.
Cheers,
Art
Hi Art,
there are halos. But dark ones ;)....
If you don't like the "lighten mode" that much, lower the opacity more.
For me it's getting to dark only with the "darken mode" and less sharp.
Are you able to build a group in elements? Then you can build one and lower opacity of both layers, when needed.
Greetings, Tanja
