Hi Greg,

This is my attempt at Monerey.  In general, I followed the advice in the lesson.  I did do some curve bending to open up the shadows under the docks and tried to add some contrast to the horizon.  I am not sure that I made any improvement in the horizon.  Also, the sky is now white.  Should I have left it grey - I could not decide?

Also, is my posted image a good size?

Thanks,
Jerry

Hi Jerry,

I had a short try on this picture too.
First problem for me was, that the grass in the right corner looks unnatural, when houses have enough color (stones too).
Greg had a solution for that in the conference call on the boat picture. Do you remember?
Was it a pin grid on a-curve and only adjust the green?

Greetings, Tanja

Hi Tanja,

The best I can remember, Greg moved the cursor over the green area to check the range of the color.  He then pinned the rest of the curve so that it would not move and then played with the color.  I will try that.  Were you able to find any cloud detail?

Best,
Jerry

Jerry,

It would be easier to see your image if it were larger in W & H dimensions (I like to use 1100 wide) and also saved for web at a higher pixel count (we can use up to 315k).

Cheers,
Art

Art,

As you suggested, here is a larger image.  Also I made a slight color adjustment - removed a slight blue tint.

Hi Jerry,

Yes, that's much easier to see.  You've managed to get a lot more colour out of the buildings and trees than I did, and much more shadow detail under the dock. Yours is superior to mine in every respect, except that you have something a little strange going on in the rocks and grass, lower right corner, where you've lost a lot of detail. Any way of fixing that?

Cheers,
Art

Good call Art.  The rocks and grass are in trouble...
Look for extreme curve angles on your curves and maybe even flat spots that need to be smoother.

Post the curves if you can...
Greg

Greg,

Unfortunately I did not save the curves.  I will not make that mistake again.  I remember most of what I did, so I will just start from scratch this PM and repost.

Hi Jerry,

think there are no really details in the clouds. Just grey soup mabe  ;).
But I will look at that.
Problem with the sky and the shadows is the same as on the corvette.
I start the picture with same solution, I do with the car. Also a curve from the library for underexposion with a mask will help, like Greg shows in the solution-video. Or the shadows/highlight command in ps.
Still have problems with the color of grass and stones by don't loose them in the houses (mabe I mased that out in ps), but save the sky.

Greetings, Tanja

Hi All,

Finally fixed the Monterey image.  I hope this has a better green.  My problem was exactly as Greg suggested - a flat spot in my curve.

Thanks,
Jerry
