The slight discoloation under the beak is intentional.GregM

GregM - I like the saturation and richness you added.  Seems to add to the clarity too.

Greg - Nice job on the BG.  Did you also apply a curve?  Seems to be more detail in the bird.

Zog - Nice contrast in the feathers.  Seems to bring his eye out too.

There are multiple things going on...

The bird has been corrected BTN in the RGB space.  It was tough to choose a neutral...
The saturation was boosted in LAB.
The background was changed using a LAB trick to replace the colors.
I blurred the A and B channels a bit in LAB to reduce the back ground noise.
I sharpened using USM and a copy of the same mask used for the background color change.
