I have been very late in posting these...My sincere apologies to everyone who has been waiting for me...
The whole point of these pins is to help you adjust the luminosity and contrast of your image.
These are to be applied to the channels in RGB.
Some things to note....
These pins calculate accurately by setting the Photoshop grey scale setting to Gamma 2.2 rather than the default 20% dot gain.
Use Ctrl-Shift-K to access the menu where these settings are found...This effects how PS generates the grey scale images.
This set of pins works best in "Single Channel" mode.
Make a background copy of your image and then...
1) In Photoshop only (elements does not support this...)
2) select channels tab.
3) select a single channel you wish to work on.
4) apply 2 pins to the image to set the shadows and highlights to the tonality you want them to be. (I usually work with Zone two and Eight)
5) curve the mid tones to make the contrast range look it's best.
If you do not know how...you should learn to replace a channel by using the "apply image" command to rid your image of any channel that is reducing contrast or obscuring shadow details.
Rinse repeat on the other channels in the image.
Set the Layer mode to Luminosity when you are done.
